SEIU Healthcare Endorses Adrian Rivera-Reyes for City Council
PA’s Largest Healthcare Union Praises Commitment to Organized Labor
May 9, 2019 — The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Pennsylvania, the state’s largest union of healthcare workers, today announced its endorsement of Adrian Rivera-Reyes for Philadelphia City Council At-Large in the Democratic primary on May 21.
“Adrian Rivera-Reyes is a strong champion for labor and healthcare, and has advocated for working Pennsylvanians throughout his career,” said Matt Yarnell, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. “He is in the fight alongside union members to build the kind of city where working families thrive by building strong unions and combating racism in any form.”
“It is an honor to receive the support of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania,” said Adrian Rivera-Reyes. “These hardworking, life-saving professionals show that a union is the best way to raise wages, improve working conditions, and strengthen our economy. Unions like SEIU are on the frontlines of the fight to create family-sustaining jobs and fix an economy that has been rigged for big corporations. Nothing can defeat people who come together to fight for their rights. We’ll prove that on Election Day.”
SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania unites nearly 45,000 nurses, professional and technical employees, direct care workers, and service employees in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home and community-based services, and state facilities across the Commonwealth. Adrian strongly supports organized labor. During his graduate studies, Adrian served as a labor organizer for Graduate Employees Together – University of Pennsylvania (GET-UP) in an effort to unionize student-workers. In this role, Adrian engaged with workers to learn about their concerns and to work as a collective to gain power and ensure their rights as workers.
