Latino Victory Fund Endorses Adrian Rivera-Reyes for City Council

Would Be First Openly LGBTQ Latino on Philadelphia City Council

April 23, 2019 — Latino Victory Fund today announced its endorsement of Adrian Rivera-Reyes for Philadelphia City Council At-Large in the Democratic primary on May 21.

“From growing up in a working class family in Puerto Rico to becoming a PhD cancer researcher, Adrian Rivera-Reyes’ perspective and voice are what’s missing in the Philadelphia City Council,” said Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito. “Adrian’s passion for helping Philadelphia’s working families is nothing new. As a community organizer, he has seen firsthand what struggling families are going through. He will be the strongest advocate at City Hall, fighting for quality housing, education, and health care. Make no mistake: this PhillyRican can get things done.”

“Our city is better when our leaders reflect our diversity,” said Adrian Rivera-Reyes. “I am proud to be endorsed by Latino Victory Fund and have their support in laying the groundwork for greater Latino representation on City Council. Now more than ever, we must fight to empower Latino voices and ensure fairness and opportunity for all Philadelphians.”

Latinos make up nearly 15% of Philadelphia’s population, and Philadelphia has the largest Puerto Rican population after New York City. If elected, Adrian would be the first openly LGBTQ Latino on Philadelphia City Council. It would also be the first time more than one Latino simultaneously served on City Council.

The Latino Victory Fund is a progressive political action committee working to grow Latino political power by increasing Latino representation at every level of government. From school boards, to the Senate, to the White House, Latino Victory identifies, recruits, and develops candidates for public office while building a permanent base of Latino donors to support them.
